Not many restaurants can brag that they are a true family endeavor – Blue Orchid Bistro can. Located in Dunlap, Tennessee, a short drive from Fall Creek Falls State Park, this small town restaurant offers all the charm of Southern hospitality with a menu usually seen only in large cities. The owners, Randy and Linda Slomian, opened the restaurant to display their daughter, Christina’s, incredible talent as a chef.
Originally from Miami, the Slomians moved to Dunlap seeking a slower pace of living. A recent college graduate, Christina was looking for a restaurant of her own. Though young, the chef has an impressive amount of experience in the kitchen as she worked for several restaurants through high school and while working on her Bachelor’s degree in Food Management.
Blue Orchid Bistro offers a casual dining experience for those fresh from the trail in nearby Fall Creek Falls or is available for more formal dinners such as parties and receptions. The menu is varied and all dishes are made from scratch using local ingredients. Some of the more popular dishes are Citrus Salmon and Apricot Bourbon Chicken. Salads are crisp and fresh. The desserts are legendary. Vegetarian and Gluten-free menu items are available. The Bistro has an impressive wine list and wine is available by the glass or the bottle. Beer is also served.
Lunch is served Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 2pm and dinner is served Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 4:30pm to 8pm. Though not required, reservations are recommended. Lunch entrees range from $5 to $10 and include salads, sandwiches and wraps. Dinner entrees are $10 to $20 and include chicken, beef and seafood. Anyone visiting Fall Creek Falls State Park wishing to explore the Middle Tennessee countryside need only visit Dunlap, Tennessee and Blue Orchid Bistro to experience some of most beautiful scenery the region has to offer as well as taste culinary excellence in a small town setting.
